Many of these activities are funded through ICOR, SMS funds and fundraising activities.
St. Dorothy holds an annual corn roast during the month of September, students and staff get dressed in farm clothes and help with husking the ears of corn. Afterwards everyone gets some yummy corn on the cob to eat.
Students and staff at St. Dorothy are involved with many local charities and fundraisers. Below are some of last year's fundraising events:
Each month we gather in the gym for an assembly with our Spiritual Animator to discuss the virtue of the month. These virtues are in our agenda book, called "Think about it!"
Every year the music teacher prepares our students for a Spring Concert.
Grade level 5 & 6 participate in a storytelling festival. A storytelling professional comes in to coach the students.
Special guests are invited to the school to give educational workshops or activities on music, science, nutrition, nature and animals or more serious topics like bullying and children's rights.
Various field trips are held during the school year funded by the"Support to Montreal Schools program". As these activities are held in conjunction with the curriculum, all pupils are expected to participate with their class. These are regular school days and attendance is taken and registered.
In addition to the Physical & Health Education program, students also participate in a wide variety of sporting competitions, games and charity events. Below are some of last year's events:
During the school year, two days are set aside for activities that involve the whole school. Ordinarily one day is chosen for a winter activity and another is chosen for a spring or early summer activity. All pupils are expected to participate, unless there is a medical reason for which participation would be dangerous. These days are considered regular class days.
The winter carnival is held each year during the month of February. Students are divided into groups and travel to different game stations around the school. Playground leaders help organize and facilitate the game stations.
